Early Christmas Present for Kindy Delivery in Rural Qld

Posted on December 13, 2018

ICPA Qld has welcomed the announcement by Education Minister Grace Grace that Queensland’s Remote Kindergarten Pilot Program will be expanded into 30 more rural Queensland state schools over the next two years.
Minister Grace has also confirmed that it will transition the pilot into an ongoing program from the beginning of 2019.
State President, Ms Tammie Irons said, “The program provides confidence and consistency for those families and staff in these schools going forward. The program has provided a lifeline to many families who were struggling to confidently deliver an early childhood education to their young children”.
ICPA Qld understands the expansion will provide access to kindergarten for more than 100 extra children in remote areas that are located more than 50 kilometers from the nearest kindergarten service.
“The program meets the need for face to face contact with teachers and social interaction with peers for rural and remote children” said Ms Irons. ICPA Qld are proud to have been an external stakeholder of the Pilot Program since its inception, in an advisory capacity.

Ms Irons also stated “ICPA members across the state will appreciate the certainty this extension brings to face to face delivery of kindy in rural and remote areas and thank the Minister for acknowledging the importance of kindergarten education for our children.”
