ICPA Qld Inc
The Isolated Children's Parents' Association is a voluntary, non-profit, apolitical parent body dedicated to ensuring that all rural and remote students have equity of access to a continuing and appropriate education.
It encompasses the education of children from early childhood through to tertiary. Children may be educated in small rural schools, by distance education, attend boarding schools or school term hostels and sometimes have access to early childhood services. Tertiary students whose family home is in rural and remote Australia frequently must live away from home to access further education.
The first Queensland ICPA branch was formed at Cunnamulla on 28 June 1971 followed by Kindon, Dirranbandi and Bollon soon after. The Queensland Council was the first State Council of ICPA to be formed on Melbourne Cup Day, 2nd November 1971 in Charleville. The inaugural President of Queensland State Council was Mr EC ‘Bunny’ Powne (Bollon). ICPA Qld Inc. now has 46 branches in Queensland and over 1200 member families.
While ICPA may be relatively small numerically, it is a highly effective and respected political lobby group. This is primarily because the organisation has always refrained from asking for assistance or programs which cannot be justified in terms of fairness and equity for all concerned. ICPA does not want a better deal than our urban counterparts, only access to a quality educational service equivalent to those available in major cities and towns.
Mrs Patricia Mitchell OAM is the Qld ICPA Patron as well as being a Life Member of ICPA-Qld Inc. She was instrumental in forming the Augathella ICPA Branch in 1973, was inaugural Secretary of Charleville School of the Air P&C ICPA when it formed in 1976 and is a Life Member of Cloncurry Branch ICPA.
In 1977, Trish was elected to Queensland Council ICPA and was Queensland President from 1982 till 1986. From 1982 –1985, she was a Federal ICPA councillor and President from 1985 ‐ 1988.

Qld Anthem -- "The Life of a Country Kid" is the official song for the Qld ICPA and was performed and written by children from South West Queensland as part of Small Town Culture and captures the spirit of the bush and the way of life for children in rural areas.
The song is now available on iTunes with all funds raised going to the ICPA. View the clip here.
Thanks to the University of Southern Queensland for funding this project and the 'Bush Kids' and 'Station Photo's' Facebook pages for their assistance.
